- Are you ready for a DJI Mini 2 vs Phantom 4 Pro video? I don't know if I've ever seen one, so we are gonna give it a shot and see how it goes... Yes, we know. The Mini 2 and the Phantom 4 Pro are so similar, it may be hard to differentiate between them, but let's give it a try.
I've seen a lot of DJI Mini 2 vs other drone videos and we've even posted several ourselves. Mainly it's been the DJI Mini 2 vs the Mini 4 Pro or even some DJI MIni 2 vs DJI Mini 2 videos. But we recently got our hands on a Phantom 4 Pro and wanted to see which drone will reign supreme.

Great videos. I am a 107 licensed pilot and I know alot about different drones. With that being said, I really enjoy your personality, your sense of humor in these videos. Great videos. As mentioned in other comments love the personality. You gained a new follower here. I’ve been flying since late 2013. I just picked up a P4 to add to my other one. Look how to seeing more content. So on the blades there is a ring that is silver for one set and black for the other two. The black match’s up with the black dots on the top of the motor

Maybe try again without the gimbal protection on rose. See if that's affecting her somehow
You could be onto it again, man. That’s the only thing I did different on her flight so it would have to be that I’m thinking. But how??? Maybe I took her peripheral vision away and she felt vertigo. lol. I’m gonna look into that for sure.
@@WeretheRoberts yeah maybe and the fact that it flew sideways on the return to home ive never noticed that before.
@@HikeFly22lol shes flown home sideways ever since we got her. Both out mini 2 drones do that for some reason. They’ll turn 90 degrees and start heading home. lol. We figured out why but not why if that makes sense. For some reason, if you have your gain and expo numbers higher than default, the mini 2 won’t spin all the way around. If I change the numbers to default or lower, it’ll spin and face the home point when returning. It’s really weird. In cine mode it’ll spin all the way but in normal and sport mode forget it. lol. It’s just something now we’ve come to expect. On the Mini 4 pro I’ve decided to just leave the settings all at default for gain and expo but I’ve never seen it do the 90 degree thing.
@@WeretheRoberts huh wow haha that's some nice discovery. It's funny seeing it go home sideways. Makes me think of a guy that gets out of work but heads to the bar before he heads home lol. I have the mini 3 pro and mini 4 pro and I've changed the gain and expo on both and the come home straight the few times I use rth. I'm gonna go with rose is gangsta she walks with a lean haha

I wonder if those blinkers around her gimbal had anything to do with it? That’s the only thing you’ve changed on her right?, and normally she is bang on! Fun test as always buddy, very entertaining! lol I know man! Rose sucked today. You’re right about the blinders being the only thing that was different. I have no clue what happened with her. And twice in a row in the same area? Really weird. At least we know the phantom can do it. lol I gotta get rose back there and figure this out.
Nice video..... I think the Mini 2 didn't like the new gimbal cover...... Hahahaha... I may gonna take my DJI Phantom 2 out of the attic, my first drone and I spent almost CAD $2000 like 10 years ago. with the gimbal, Gopro Hero 2, and 5.8 Ghz 600 mW ImmercionRC Video transmitter, and FatShark goggles..... Two of the props have rings on top, two of them have no ring on top. The two alike go opposite of each other and won't fit on the wrong motor due to opposite thread patterns. Trust me, you'll never regret buying the P4, especially for $400.
Awesome tips, man! I noticed the props seemed to have a gray or black mark at the top of each but I think these props are the quiet aftermarket ones. I’ve been back and forth about getting that phantom and I think I finally made a decision. Maybe I’ll put it in part of a video upcoming. lol. Hint: I’m getting it. Hahaha.
Kevin don’t waste 400 dollars on that dinosaur Egbert. put it towards a nice new up to date air 3. Great vids always bud 👍🏻
I really like the way you think and I believe that’s the route we’re going. Wife is a pretty hard No on the phantom and I haven’t persuaded her in the least. lol. The new air 3 updated version is what I’m probably gonna go with if all goes well. Now that the DJI ban is a thing of the past (for now) I feel more comfortable buying something new. For hobbyist I would agree, but the Phantom 4 Pro has been the work house for years in the commercial side of the industry, here is a short I did last week of my Phantom 4 Pro RTK, the only drone that was able to get this job done correctly as my M3E & M3M wouldn't accept the FAA approval & unlock. Wow Rose was off her feed!! I think it is great you have had a chance to mess with the Phantom 😃 but in the long run the Air 3 is what you should end up with. 🐝

Man, I bet that Mavic 3 is pretty cool to fly, eh? Isn’t that a few steps up from the Air 3? I can’t keep all these models straight to easily. lol. Rose totally screwed the pooch on this test man. It’s almost like she threw the game on purpose. I know she doesn’t have precision landing but I’ve never seen her off more than a few feet at most. And to do it twice in the same spot in a row? Something is weird here. All I can figure is the gimbal hood screwed with her because that’s the only thing that was different on this video. I do think we are gonna pass on the phantom, too and focus on the updated Air 3 model when it comes out. I think it would be smart to stick with that because it’s an awesome drone but I also already have the RC2 with the mini 4 pro and I could get an RCN2 controller instead. It would be cool to have a back up controller, eh?
The mini 2 landing could be because you only had 8to 10 satellites Seems like you had more satellites with the phantom. Love the videos. 🛰️
Oh wow I never even thought of that. Normally when I take off with the Mini 2 it has a few more satellites than 10 for sure. I did think it was strange the home point was updated with only 8 considering it normally waits for at least 10. I’m gonna have to get her back to that spot and figure this out for sure. Fought the gimbal cover was for stopping lens flare. I've got one for the mini 4 pro, and the funny thing is I've not yet used it and hardly used it when I had one for the mini se 😅
Oh wow I didn’t know that. Maybe that’s the whole purpose for it. I guess I should look into that, eh? I just happened to stumble across it the other day and figured I’d give it a try. I actually like it for the convenience but that just shows another sign of my laziness. Hahaha.

lol no kidding. I’ve never seen her more than just a few feet off the pad. I know she doesn’t have precision landing but dang 11 feet? I figured it would’ve been a lot closer of a comparison considering the phantoms performance last week. lol. I do agree though. The phantom did pretty awesome. I’m gonna have to take rose out to that spot again and get this sorted out

But no surprise there. the Mini 2 doesn't have precision landing, but it does have the ability to fly sideways and even backward when returning to home. I'm not getting rid of Grace, my Mini 2! Another great test, Kevin!

I’ve never seen either of our Mini 2 drones more than a few feet off the pad when landing so I have no idea what got into her this time. Once landing that far away is a fluke I’d say but twice in a row in the same spot? What the heck??? I gotta take her back there and figure out what’s going on. I’m sure it’s gonna wind up being user error again. Hahaha. I’m like you. I’m never gonna get rid of these mini 2 drones. They’re old faithful if you ask me. The phantom 4 did a great precision landing but the best precision landing for me is a great pilot with landing skills just in case you need to maneuver in a last second emergency. Can't really rely on those sensors. Thanks for the video Kevin. God bless.
lol great point, buddy. I was impressed with the phantoms accuracy this time and it’s done the same a few more times, too. I’m still thinking I’ll be passing on it though and prepping Kristi for a yes on the updated air 3 model when it comes out. If it’s between that and a new Mini 5 pro I’ll probably keep the mini 4 pro a d go with the Air 3s or whatever it is. I’m still baffled why Rose acted like she did. I have to get her back out there and do more testing. I do agree with you about the pilot needing to be better than the auto RTH but on the other hand it’s also nice to know what the RTH can do or if it can even be trusted. lol

lol thanks, Dave. Interesting is definitely a good word or it. I’ve never seen the Mini 2 so far away. Usually she’s only a few feet off at most. I gotta get that worked out. I’ve looked form the phantom on Amazon and found it listed for over $2,000 new! That’s crazy considering DJI stopped the support. lol. I do think we are gonna pass on the phantom though because the Air 3 or whatever is coming out to update that is really calling my name. It’s saying, “Kevin” then all I hear is a high pitched ringing in my ears because Kristi cuts in and says, “No!” Hahaha

Go for the Air 3. You already have the mini 4 pro and controller as did I . I purchased the air 3 with rc-n2 and use my mini 4 pro controler. Good price right now.
Heck yea, man that’s a great point. I do think we’ve decided to pass on the phantom. I could use that $400 to go toward the new version of the Air 3 when it comes out. I think it’s really smart to stick with the controller option as you did and I could even get the RCN2 controller to save some money also, then have it as a back up if the RC2 controller goes out on me. Great advice man. I’m using you guys support on here to help persuade wife. lol.

Weird what was wrong with the Mini 2 this time. Maybe the heat, the gimbal protection or that thing on top is interfering with the GPS antennas?
Hahahaha. My dad is 78 and still has his hair so maybe I will too. Lol I have no clue what was up with the Mini 2 this time. The only thing I changed was that gimbal good thing so maybe that’s the issue. I’m gonna go back soon and try to get it sorted out.
@@WeretheRoberts I have one of those too, but I haven't used it on my Mini 2, only a few times on my previous Mavic Mini.

I think that Rose missed her landing spot by some distance because you touched the stick whilst she was returning home buddy. You know the bit where rose doesnt turn the full 180 degrees and you use the stick to yaw her so she's straight. I find if I touch any of the sticks during my mini 4 pros rth then the landing is never as precise. Just a thought 🤔👍💪
lol man, she wasn’t even in the ball park this time. I’ve never seen her do anything close to that since we got her and I really can’t explain it. I do know the only thing I did different was put that hood on her gimbal. I can’t see that causing such a problem but both times she returned to that same spot about 11 feet away. It was weird. I’m not sure if it was the hood or messing with the sticks but I have to get that figured out. We had problems with the Mini 4 pro last time, too. Common denominator? KEVIN! Hahaha.
Never known the mini 2 be more than a metre off on RTH. Maybe you nudged the stick when turning it to face you? although that would of been the right stick. As for the Phantom, you know they way foward is the Air 3! That thing is a beast. Keep safe brother.

Rose looked like a mana ray with that shield on. I would take one of those pop up picnic tents some just fold up you can set it up in less than a minute!! I think rose did not like the heat!!
lol I think she looked intimidating. I’m sort of thinking it may have inhibited her view so her landing was off. Haha. I dig the suggestion of the tent. Man I can probably deal with the heat as long as I can at least see the phone screen. That was a miserable flight all around. I’m just glad I was able to not lose either of them. lol

Hmmm..your Mini 2 being off that much is concerning. Was your RID module on? Have you landed before with the RID module on, but within a foot or so of takeoff?
lol I know man that was pretty surprising. She’s never been more than just a few feet off the pad at most. The RID was on and we’ve launched and landed with it on pretty much every time I’ve flown her since March or so. I have no idea what’s up but I’m gonna have to take her back to that spot and get it sorted. When it’s a little cooler of course. lol

The mini 2 doesn't do precision landing & it could be that Rid thing you've got right over the gps modual that's effecting accuracy

I’ve also had the RID module on her since March of this year and she’s been perfect up until this flight. The only thing I can even possibly think of is that gimbal hood I used to is it possible that interfered? I can’t see it being that big of a deal but I definitely need to get it figured out.

Yea, man I think we’ve decided to pass on the phantom. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. I’ve been working on Wife regarding the updated Air 3 model when it comes out and I think she’s game! That would be amazing!
